Swaraj, Swadeshi, such words sometimes make us feel that its not acceptable in today's era where whole Globe is a one click market.
Yes, even I'm not against the new era culture. But think about it, we shouldn't ignore Swadeshi Companies just coz we feel that they are not up to the mark or to some its a status problem.
Let's take an example, yes I am taking it just as an example, nothing personal.
Companies like Micromax, Karbonn, Xolo, etc are doing extremely well in India (agree or no). Sameway Companies like Xiaomi are doing well in China. And these local brands has given a bitter taste to MNCs like Samsung.
Ofcourse Companies like Micromax & Xiaomi has been able to penetrate deep into the market coz they are able to render high end specs at an affordable price which MNCs like Samsung fails to. But then people may argue Quality, Service, etc. etc. So let's take it one by one.
1. Quality: Let's be honest, are you going to use your handset for 10-15 years? Secondly what is the measure by which you say MNC has a better quality than local? I have seen 100s of Samsung devices getting hanged after 6 to 18 months of use.What I feel is, may it be any brand, the average span that we are gonna you use the phone is 1.5 to 3 years.
2. Service: I always listen local companies give bad (after sales) Service. Really? I mean MNC gives you prompt service? You go to service center, and they immediately repair / replace your handset? I think we have convinced ourselves that if MNC takes time in giving service then it coz they are big and local companies give poor service coz they don't know how to manage.
3. Price: Here I may say, local companies are not doing correct thing by giving phones at such low cost. Higher the price, better is the phone / company. That's what we Indians believe. Standard / status is directly proportionate to the price of phone. I don't understand, why aren't we happy to buy the same specs at lower cost; Just coz it will hamper our Status?
I have seen people buying 40k phone just for status but compromising quality of Mattress just to control the budget, Mattress, on which we spend more than one third of our Life, is not important coz its not visible to others, So its not a status symbol for us.
Anyways, What I feel is, we should buy products keeping in mind our exact requirement for best value for money purchase. Yureka is 9k cost phone, and the same specs you get it @ 24k by a MNC.
4. Trust: I think the reason for not buy local brands is probably we don't trust them. The reason could be all above 3 points. Start trusting them, you'll risk yourself just 9k instead of 24k. A friend of mine lost his phone which costed 28k. He was a hardcore a MNC fan, is now using local brand (though reason is low end price & so low risk.) I would say, let them grow big, but that's not possible if we don't trust & support them.
5. Loyalty: Yes we are Brand loyal. We generally avoid experimenting things. Trying something new isn't our style. But then World has changed, take risks & try new companies, let competition be alive. So give equal chance to local companies while you compare which brand to buy.
Have you ever heard, Chinese using Micromax? But Indians will always prefer Xiaomi over Micromax for obvious above reasons.
Conclusion:
I'm not saying you shouldn't buy non Indian brand. What I am saying is don't ignore Indian brand just due to above all reasons. In fact, try to match your requirement in an Indian Company, if you don't find it then go for MNC.
